After living and traveling abroad throughout her teenage years and residing in Manchester for over a decade all that remains of Jane Chavez-Dawson’s welsh origins is the occasional welsh lilt to her accent. Her initial artistic inclination was more towards theory but after studying a degree in the ‘History of art and design’ at Manchester Metropolitan University’ she began producing artwork and completed a Masters (Art as Environment) at MMU.
As an artist Chavez-Dawson’s primary concerns are with television and how even the most overlooked subtleties invade our subconscious, affect our perceptions and interpretations of visual narratives. This has resulted with responses in a variety of mediums; videos that utilises the behaviour, mannerisms and film quality of daytime television, lifestyle & regional television programmes, also paintings, cress sculptures and posters.
