Rebecca’s primary subject is painting, the seductiveness and sensuousness of pushing paint on canvas. The imagery she uses, whether they are people, places or objects are chosen in order for her to arrange a composition that is full of luminosity, light, and colour, often with a hint of the macabre. The Lollipops (2007) are dumped as though from the aftermath of a child’s birthday party. The artists is fascinated with 16th century Dutch still lives of leftovers, and like many of those paintings this also features a skull; a reminder of mortality amid the plenty.
